The repression of Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega's regime has gone beyond the seizure of the Central American University. He has now expelled almost a dozen Jesuits from their home in the capital. The Society of Jesus has condemned the eviction in a statement.

They showed the documents that proved that this property did not belong to the university but they ignored it and forced the Jesuits to vacate the residence with their belongings and leave.

The 'Villa del Carmen' residence was adjacent to the Central American University. It was the home of the Jesuits who worked there.

The rector of the university's branch in El Salvador has labeled these acts as an attack on freedom. He is concerned for the 5,000 affected Nicaraguan students as many of them were supposed to graduate this year.

Students are very worried right now. Many of them were finishing their education and will not be able to get a university degree. They feel uncomfortable because they wanted to graduate from Central American University. It is the university they chose and placed their confidence in and their rights as university students in Nicaragua have been affected.

He assures that the Society of Jesus is seeking solutions to this problem to every extent allowed by the law.

We are going to look for all the possibilities to try to help those students who have been left in a very complex situation because they may lose their studies since they have not obtained recognition of a university degree.

Many organizations, including the United Nations, have spoken out against the treatment of the Jesuits and the students of Nicaragua.
