Pope Francis expressed his deep regret over the latest shipwreck that has claimed the lives of dozens of migrants and refugees in the Mediterranean.

POPE FRANCIS
I prayed for them. And with sorrow and shame, we have to say that since the beginning of the year already almost two thousand men, women and children have died in this sea trying to reach Europe. It is an open wound of our humanity.

The Pope also asked for prayers for peace in Cameroon and for those affected by the devastating fires in Maui.

A crowd of young people from WYD in Lisbon was still present in the square.

POPE FRANCIS
I especially greet some groups that participated in the Youth Day in Lisbon—there are many! I see flags...Poland, Mexico, Argentina, Italy, so many, El Salvador.

Altogether there were about 15,000 people in St. Peter's Square.

Also during the weekend, Pope Francis expressed his sorrow for the assassination of one of Ecuador's presidential candidates and for the ongoing violence in the country.
