The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) is speaking out against the Biden administration's proposed changes to the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act that was originally supported by the USCCB when it was signed into law in 2022. Now, the Biden administration wants to include abortion.
The Pregnant Workers Fairness Act requires employers to provide “reasonable accomodations” to an employees known limitations related to pregnancy or childbirth.
Under the new rules, employers would be required to accomodate women for limitations as a result of “having or choosing not to have an abortion.”
The USCCB released a statement saying Biden's changes are a “total distortion” of the intent of the legislation and the opposite of what pregnant mothers need.
Pope Francis most recently met with President Biden at the Vatican in 2021. The two reportedly had a 90-minute meeting but Biden's stance on abortion was not discussed.
