The campus of the Catholic University of Portugal was packed.
There, Pope Francis addressed both students and university leaders. He told them that college is a pilgrimage because it is a constant search for answers. He encouraged the students to focus on these two actions in their pilgrimage.
POPE FRANCIS
Seek and risk: these are the two verbs of the pilgrim. Seek and risk.
The Pope said that life should not be reduced to a desperate search for comfort. Rather, he stressed the importance of expanding one's worldview.
POPE FRANCIS
If seeds were self-preserving, they would completely waste their generative power and condemn us to famine; if winters were self-preserving, there would be no wonder of spring. Have, therefore, the courage to replace fears with dreams; replace fears with dreams. Do not be administrators of fears but entrepreneurs of dreams!
The Pope also applied this message to universities, which he said serve a much higher purpose than simply generating profits.
He then reminded the young people of their ability to solve the challenges of today. He encouraged them to promote a more ecological, more humane and less polarized world.
