As hundreds of pilgrims waited to see the Pope before his meeting with the Portuguese president, the National Republican Guard lined the streets outside the National Palace of Belém.
Members of the military forces paraded, while others marched through the streets. The members of the Mounted Guard are part of the State Honors and Security Unit, which is usually present at national events.
