Representatives of the Vatican and German bishops met to discuss the 'theological and disciplinary issues' that emerged at the synod of the German prelates.

Both issued a joint statement saying that the atmosphere of the meeting was 'positive and constructive' and announced that there will be more meetings in the future.

They first met in November, when the German bishops came to Rome for their ad limina visit. In addition to meeting with Pope Francis, the bishops also met with senior Vatican officials.

Some of the topics that the German synodal way specifically brought light included the bishops' decisions to make changes to Church practices in moral doctrine, such as setting up new official structures or doctrines that pose a threat to the unity of the Church and welcoming the blessing of same-sex couples.

Senior Vatican members, such as Cardinals Pietro Parolin and Luis Ladaria, participated in this meeting.
