On the occassion of World Grandparents Day and just one week before World Youth Day, Pope Francis was joined by the old and the young during his Sunday Angelus.
He placed a special emphasis on the importance of intergenerational relationships.
POPE FRANCIS
May the proximity between the two days be an invitation to foster a much-needed alliance between generations, because the future is built together, by sharing experiences and mutual care between the young and the old.
Let us not forget about them. And let's applaud all grandfathers and grandmothers!
The crowd was filled with thousands of pilgrims bearing the record-high heat to pray with Pope Francis. He offered prayers for those being impacted by severe weather conditions around the globe.
POPE FRANCIS
Various regions are affected by abnormal heat waves and hit by devastating fires—on the other hand, in not a few places there is heavy rainfall and floods, such as those that have scourged in recent days in South Korea. I stand with those who are suffering and with those who are assisting the victims and the displaced.
Pope Francis closed the Angelus by asking the audience to pray for him and for all grandparents and grandchildren.
