The trial of Cardinal Becciu and nine others accused of alleged embezzlement of Vatican funds has resumed after a month's hiatus.

For four hours, the promoter of Justice, Alessandro Diddi, gave an overview of the acts the ten Vatican officials were accused of two years ago. Among them is the purchase and sale of a building in London.

Diddi said that at least five more hearings will be needed to retrace the facts. But he explained that the trial is already in its final phase and that the verdict is expected by the end of this year.

Cardinal Becciu was present in the courtroom for this hearing. Diddi stressed that the cardinal, who at the time was the Vatican's number three, was not under investigation at first. Eventually, his alleged involvement was discovered through phone chats found in 2019 in the registry of the Secretariat of State. Cardinal Becciu is accused of alleged corruption and embezzlement, among other crimes.
