On June 15, the Jesuits announced Fr. Marko Rupnik's expulsion from the order as a result of his “repeated refusal” to address the allegations of sexual abuse and to follow the restrictions placed on him.
He was prohibited from publicly exercising his priestly ministry, from leaving the area around Rome and from creating artwork publicly, especially for religious structures. The claims of abuse against Fr. Rupnik are believed to span from the mid-1980s to 2018.
Until July 14, he had the opportunity to appeal the decision. He did not. So, now, Fr. Rupnik is officially expelled from the Society of Jesus.
The Slovenian priest is the co-founder of the Loyola Community, which began in the 1980s and an internationally renowned artist.
