The Vatican has been gifted an exact replica of a 1st century boat that was excavated from the Sea of Galilee in the Holy Land.
Labeled the “Barque of Peter,” the original boat was discovered on the shore of Lake Tiberias in 1986 and is now on display in Israel. The replica, now at the Vatican, is over 28 feet long and is capable of carrying over fifteen people.

We looked for all the specific materials, textiles and woods that existed at that time. So we made something that we spent over two years on. Let's just say it was not a simple task.
The boat was donated by the Aponte family in collaboration with the International Diplomatic Institute of Rome.

We are very happy and proud that we were able to do it.
The “Barque of Peter” was blessed by Pope Francis. The Vatican Museums is now working to install it into one of its exhibitions.
