The Russian Presidential Press Secretary, Dmitry Peskov, announced that Cardinal Matteo Zuppi was greeted by the Kremlin's foreign policy adviser, Yutri Ushakov. According to Russian news agency, Interfax, the two met and discussed topics related to the conflict in Ukraine.
The schedule for the papal evnoy has not officially been released. But according to Russian news agency, TASS, Cardinal Zuppi is scheduled to preside over a Mass at the Catholic Cathedral in Moscow on June 29.
Italian agency, ANSA, reported that a meeting between Cardinal Zuppi and Patriarch Kirill could take place on the morning of June 29 at the Russian Orthodox Patriachate.
According to TASS, Peskov also announced that, at the moment, Vladimir Putin has no plans to meet with the papal envoy. Interfax quoted the Press Secretary expressing Russia's “appreciation” for the Pope's efforts to finding a solution for the situation in Ukraine.
