On the feast day of the patron saints of Rome, the statue of St. Peter is dressed in papal vestments.
The Vatican will celebrate the Solemnity of the Apostles Peter and Paul on June 29 at 9:30 a.m. in St. Peter's Basilica. One year ago, during this celebration, Pope Francis asked the Church to leave behind the sterile nostalgia of the past and return to the evangelizing spirit of Jesus' first disciples.
POPE FRANCIS
A free and humble Church that 'gets up quickly,' that does not procrastinate, does not delay the challenges of today, does not linger in sacred places, but is animated by a passion for proclaiming the Gospel and a desire to reach out to and welcome all.
The Vatican has confirmed that the Pope will preside over the celebration. He will likely not be the main celebrant due to his knee problems. At liturgical celebrations for some time now, he has usually presided over the celebration and delivered the homily.
As is customary, the Pope will bless the pallium vestments of the archbishops.
Among them will be the new Archbishop of Madrid, Monsignor José Cobo Cano.
