During the last week of June, the Council of Cardinals met for the second time with Pope Franics after the organization was renewed earlier this year. Among other topics, the group discussed the recent synodal document, Instrumentum Laboris.
The Council is also known as the C9 because it consists of nine cardinals. Its goal is to help the Pope in governing the Church and in reforming the Roman Curia. The latter was accomplished with the Apostolic Constitution Praedicate Evangelium in March 2022.
Some members include Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Vatican Secretary of State; Cardinal Seán Patrick O'Malley, the Archbishop of Boston; and Cardinal Juan José Omella, the Archbishop of Barcelona.
The Council met in April to discuss peacemaking efforts and preparations for the upcoming phase of the Synod on Synodality.
This C9 meeting comes just over one week after Pope Francis was discharged from the hospital as he slowly begins to return to his normal schedule.
