Pope Francis met with the Canons Regular of the Lateran, a congregation of priests and lay brothers of the Church, on the occasion of their 200th anniversary. This institution was created from the union of two others that were suffering international Christian persecution.
The Pope praised the ability of these two congregations to unite to prevent the spread of persecution and strengthen eachothers' spirituality.
POPE FRANCIS
You have often lived through changes. The bicentennial you are celebrating is also linked to one of these, when, in a time of adverse circumstances, you knew how to make courageous decisions, transforming the challenge into an opportunity for rebirth.
On the occasion of the 200th anniversary of their institution, the Canons Regular of the Lateran organized a meeting to reflect on their history and challenges they overcame.
Among the participants in the Congress was the Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin.
