After being hospitalized on June 7 for abdominal surgery, Pope Francis' doctor recommended that he spend an extra week recovering.
DR. SERGIO ALFIERI
Generally for this surgery it takes 5-7 days in the hospital. Let's keep in mind that we operated on the Pope, an 86-year-old man, who has already undergone 4 surgeries, who was recently recovered from a pulmonary infection. And so clearly we would take all precautions.
The Pope has spent the time resting and healing. The Vatican cancelled all his public activities until June 18. But Pope Francis has not been completely inactive.
He spent one morning visiting patients in the Pediatric Cancer and Children's Neurosurgery departments in Rome's Gemelli Hospital.
Some children sent the Pope a message, wishing him a quick recovery.
We'll see you soon! Bye Pope Francis!
The Vatican has confirmed that the Pope will be discharged from the hospital on the morning of June 16.
