Pope Francis met with the World Union of Catholic Women's Organizations on May 13, the feast of Our Lady of Fatima. He called for the defense of life in Portugal, since on the same day, the Portugese parliament voted to allow euthanasia in the country.
POPE FRANCIS
Today I am also very sad, because in the country where Our Lady appeared, a law to kill is enacted, one more step in the long list of countries with euthanasia. Today, then, thinking of Our Lady, let us look at Mary as a model of a woman of excellence, who lives a gift and a task in fullness: the gift of 'motherhood' and the task of 'taking care' of her children in the Church.
The Pope dedicated a large part of his speech to highlighting the essential role of women.
POPE FRANCIS
If we want to know what humanity is without woman, what man is without woman, we have it on the first page of the Bible: it is loneliness. Man without woman is alone. Humanity without woman is alone. A culture without woman is alone. Where there is no woman, there is loneliness, a harsh loneliness that generates sadness and all kinds of damage to humanity.
The World Union of Catholic Women's Organizations promotes the presence and participation of women in the Church. At the meeting, Pope Francis encouraged them to continue their work of evangelization.
