The Vatican will send its Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, to the coronation of Charles III on May 6. The presence of the second in command of the Holy See will be an important gesture for the future head of the Anglican Church.
In addition to the Vatican Secretary of State, the Archbishop of Westminster, Cardinal Vincent Nichols, together with the Apostolic Nuncio to Great Britain will both be attending the ceremony.
King Charles III visited Pope Francis in 2017 and 2019. To celebrate the coronation, Pope Francis gifted a relic of the True Cross, which will be featured prominently at the coronation ceremony.
