Before praying the Regina Caeli in Budapest, Pope Francis reflected on the words of Cardinal Péter Erdő, the Archbishop of the city.
POPE FRANCIS
Cardinal Erdő said that here we have been living “on the eastern border of Western Christianity for a thousand years.” It is beautiful that the borders do not represent frontiers that separate us but zones that connect us. And that believers in Christ put first the charity that unites and not the historical, cultural and religious differences that divide.
The Pope entrusted the Hungarians to Our Lady and also prayed for Russia and Ukraine.
POPE FRANCIS
Holy Virgin, look upon the people who suffer most. Take special care of the neighboring Ukrainian martyr people and the Russian people, consecrated to you.
On March 25 last year, the Pope consecrated Russia and Ukraine to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. One of the reasons for his trip to Hungary is to continue to promote peace between the two countries.
