In the new documentary, Libres, twelve monasteries open their doors to tell the stories of those who have chosen to dedicate themselves to religious life.

The director, Santos Blanco, became interested in creating a documentary after he began studying monastic life.

You discover that there are some people who dedicate their whole life to deepening their faith and spiritual life.
I started to read some books and that's when I came across one of Pope Francis' phrases: “The world and the Church need you as beacons that illuminate the path of men and women of our time.”

These words motivated Blanco to pursue the project. The scriptwriter of the documentary, Javier Lorenzo, said the film exposed him to stories that have changed his life.

For me, it has been like renewing my heart. Over the years, you become more skeptical about life and this has been like remembering again that I have a desire to live passionately.
It's been a bit of a reawakening of this desire for a great life.

The Director of Libres said the documentary poses a challenging yet important question to viewers: what makes a person truly free?
