On April 19 in St. Peter's Basilica, the School of Arts and Crafts was inaugurated in collaboration with the Fratelli Tutti Foundation. The School is an initiative of the Fabric of St. Peter: the institute responsible for the conservation and maintenance of St. Peter's Basilica.
The first edition of the school began in January 2023. Twenty students were selected for each of the three courses that offer professional training in the artisan fields related to marble, carpentry and more.
This course is free of charge and under the guidance of professional experts at St. Peter's Basilica and university professors from Italy and abroad.
The inauguration of the School of Arts and Crafts revives an initiative that began more than 200 years ago when free courses were offered to young apprentices.
The Fabric of St. Peter originated in the 15th century during the reconstruction of the choir of St. Peter's Basilica. The School of Arts and Crafts strives to combine this historical heritage with new skills guided by technology.
