In 2015, Pope Francis traveled to Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as a “sign of peace,” 20 years after their deadly civil war. In the meeting, he expressed his desire for peace in the religiously and ethnically diverse country, often called the Jerusalem of Europe.
