The United Nations Under-Secretary General for Human Rights is also calling for the restoration of citizenship and political rights of those who have opposed the Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo regime, like Bishop Rolando Álvarez.
Nicaragua recently stripped 222 political prisoners of their citizenship and deported them to the United States. The bishop of Matagalpa was then transferred from house arrest to prison.
