The Holy See Press Office announced the logo and motto for Pope Francis' 41st international trip abroad.

In the center of the logo is the Budapest Chain Bridge, the oldest Hungarian bridge over the Danube river. It is the symbol of the capital city and was built in the 1840s to connect the cities of Buda and Pest.

The logo also has a cross on the lefthand side, which refers to the address Pope Francis made in Budapest on September 12, 2021 in an audience with the Ecumenical Council of Hungary and members of Jewish communities.

POPE FRANCIS
September 12, 2021

The Chain Bridge, besides being the most famous, is also the oldest bridge in this city. Many generations have crossed it. Thus it invites memories of the past. There, we will find suffering and darkness, misunderstanding and persecution, but by going to the roots, we will discover a greater common spiritual heritage. This is the treasure that enables us to build a different future together.

The colors of both the Holy See and Hungary meet in the middle of the bridge and are encompassed by the Eucharist and the world. The motto of the papal visit is “Christ is our future.”
