Pope Francis met with those responsible for the economic support of the Italian Bishops' Conference. Its President, Cardinal Matteo Zuppi, made the Pope laugh by saying that when you are rich but have no love, you become stupid. Pope Francis echoed the Cardinal's words in his speech.

POPE FRANCIS
He said the word indifference in passing. I think this is the ugliest disease we can have: becoming indifferent and insensitive to other people's problems.

The Pope praised the change of mentality in the economic management of the Church that came from listening to and including Christians in the processes.

POPE FRANCIS
The synodal process is bringing out this widespread conscience, and, at the same time, it is necessary to discard some misguided models.

As a bishop of Rome, Pope Francis often meets with the Bishops' Conference to discuss the universal and local Church.
