During his General Audience, Pope Francis reflected on how to evangelize, using the guidelines Jesus gives his disciples in St. Mark's Gospel.
The Pope stressed that Jesus sends them as sheep and not as powerful animals because, otherwise, this would happen:
POPE FRANCIS
We would think like this: let us become important, numerous, prestigious, and the world will listen to us and respect us and we will overcome the wolves. It doesn't work that way.
If you don't want to be sheep, the Lord will not defend you from wolves. Do what you can.
Pope Francis said that this means not seeking the spotlight when it comes to evangelizing.
POPE FRANCIS
If I would like to be with the Lord, I must let Him be my shepherd. And He is not the shepherd of wolves but of lambs.
The Pope said that it is important for each person to find his or her own way of evangelizing but also to rely on the other members of the community. He stressed that evangelization fosters unity in the Church.
