In his video message with prayer intentions for the month of February, Pope Francis jokes about the role of parishes: 'Sometimes I think we should put a sign on the door that says 'Free admission.''
The Pope points out that 'parishes should be close-knit communities, without bureaucracy—a place where the gift of the sacraments can be found.' He asks that their doors always be open 'to those who are excluded,' but also 'to those included.'
Pope Francis warns that parishes 'are not a club for the few' and asks that parish communities rethink their styles so that 'they may become communities of faith, of fraternity and of welcoming the most in need.'
