This Sunday marks the third 'Word of God Sunday.' Pope Francis established it in 2019 to emphasize the importance of the Holy Scriptures in the daily life of Christians.

They are called to the important work of serving the Gospel of Jesus, of proclaiming Him, so that His consolation, His joy and His liberation can reach everyone. That is also the mission of each one of us: to be credible messengers, prophets of God’s Word in the world.
On this Sunday last year, the Pope used the celebration to confer the lay ministry of lector on several men and women from different parts of the world.
Receive the book of the holy writings and faithfully transmit the Word of God, to sprout and bear fruit in the hearts of men.
Amen.
Pope Francis instituted Word of God Sunday with the apostolic letter, 'Aperuit illis,' which placed this celebration on the third Sunday in ordinary time.
