Pope Francis reminded young people that World Youth Day is not an event for tourism but a unique opportunity to share the faith with Catholics from other countries and cultures.
POPE FRANCIS
It calls my attention and fills me with joy that so many young people will go to WYD because they need to participate. Some will say, “I'm going as a tourist...” But any young person who goes to WYD, goes because, deep down, he or she has the thirst to participate, to share, to tell their experience and receive the experience of others. They are thirsty for horizons.
The Pope shared this in a video message distributed by the World Youth Day organizers. He said that it is an opportunity to step outside oneself and open one's mind and heart.
POPE FRANCIS
Open your heart to other cultures, to other boys, to other girls, who are also at this World Youth Day. Get ready for this: to open horizons, to open your hearts.
World Youth Day will take place from August 1 to 6 and 400,000 people have already registered with Pope Francis being the first.
