January 18 marks the beginning of the 56th Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. This week is dedicated to encouraging different Christian groups to reflect on unity in diversity.
POPE FRANCIS
January 2021
In these days, let us pray together so that Jesus’s desire might be accomplished: “That all may be one.” Unity, which is always superior to conflict.
This year's theme is “Learn to do good, seek justice.” Churches and communities around Rome will hold prayer vigils on Thursday, January 19. The main vigil will be held at the parish of Santa Maria delle Grazie al Trionfale.
Throughout the week, there will be different initiatives in the Eternal City, including a solemn prayer with Orthodox Patriarch of Alexandria, His Beatitude Theodore, on January 20 at the Church of Santa Maria in Trastevere.
At the end of the week, Pope Francis will pray Vespers at the Basilica of St. Paul Outside the Walls with leaders of other religious denominations.
