At the Angelus prayer on the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord, Pope Francis asked those present to pray for the mothers of Russian and Ukrainian soldiers killed in the war.

Today, seeing Mary with the child in the nativity scene in front of us, I think of the mothers of the victims of the wars, of the soldiers who fell in this war in Ukraine—the Ukrainian and Russian mothers, who have both lost their children. This is the price of war. We pray for the mothers.
According to the Vatican police, there were 30,000 pilgrims in St Peter’s Square.
