Following the death of Pope emeritus Benedict XVI, the Holy See Press Office released his Spiritual Testimony.
The text, which was written on August 29, 2006, describes the Pope emeritus as he reflects on his life. He thanks God, his parents, his brother and sister, and all those who played a role in his faith journey.
In the testimony, Pope emeritus Benedict XVI also challenged Christians to “stand firm in the faith” and to not “be confused.” He reaffirmed that science and faith are not contradictory—a constant theme throughout his pontificate.
POPE BENEDICT XVI
November 21, 2012
Far from being in conflict, faith and science go hand in hand in the service of man’s moral advancement and his wise stewardship of creation.
Pope emeritus Benedict XVI also reflects on how the Christian faith has grown and “learned to understand better the limits of its claims” through its “dialogue with the natural sciences.”
At the close of the Spiritual Testimony, the Pope emeritus asks the faithful to pray for him and he assured them of his daily “heartfelt prayer.”
