The day after Pope Francis petitioned pilgrims to pray for Pope emeritus Benedict XVI, the Holy See Press Office Director released a statement describing his health.
Director Matteo Bruni explains that Pope emeritus Benedict XVI “was able to rest well” the night before. Bruni says he is “absolutely lucid and alert.” Although the condition “remains serious,” the Pope emeritus' “situation at the moment is stable.”
The message ends with Pope Francis' invitation to continue praying for the Pope emeritus and to “accompany him in these difficult hours.”
