Vatican Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, met with journalists during Pope Francis' trip to Bahrain. During the meeting, they discussed the situation with Russia and Ukraine.

Cardinal Parolin sees Putin's recent signals regarding diagloue as positive. He believes that Russia is moving in the right direction to achieve peace.

The Secretary of State praised Russia's return to the agreement to export grain by ship from Ukraine. The grain will cross the Black Sea, and, passing through Turkey, it will reach various countries such as Somalia, Djibouti and Sudan.

Journalists also asked the Cardinal about his meeting with Sergey Lavrov, the Russian Foreign Minister, during the UN General Assembly. Cardinal Parolin commented that he told Lavrov about the Pope's concern and that the Foreign Minister responded with the Russian reasoning for the war.

The Vatican Secretary of State supports demonstrations for peace in Ukraine as long as, as he explained, 'we all do them together and they are not instrumentalized for other purposes.'
