Italian Cardinal Giuseppe Bertello is 80 years old, so he is no longer able to vote in the event of a future conclave.
Created cardinal by Pope Benedict XVI in the Consistory of 2012, he was one of the electors in the last conclave that elected Pope Francis.
Although he is now President Emeritus of the governing body of Vatican City State, he had been very active in this position. For example, he attended the traditional inauguration of the Nativity Scene and Christmas tree in St. Peter's Square.
This nativity scene is the artistic expression of the faith of a people.
Cardinal Bertello, previously served for decades in the Vatican's diplomatic corps and was one of the members of the council of cardinals that advised the Pope on the reform of the Curia.
With his departure, the number of cardinal electors drops to 129.
