Cardinal Rubén Salazar—Archbishop emeritus of Bogotá—recently turned 80 years old, losing his right to vote in future conclaves. With this, Colombia is now left without any cardinal electors.
Appointed bishop by Pope John Paul II and cardinal by Pope Benedict XVI, Salazar was one of the electors in the 2013 conclave that elected Pope Francis.

Reaching two-thirds of the votes is not easy, but immediately the consensus grew and grew...in such a way that, in the end, the vote was overwhelming.
The most recent cardinal to turn 80 years old was the cardinal of El Salvador, Gregorio Rosa Chávez.. While the number of cardinal electors currently stands at 130, eight more cardinals will lose the ability to vote in 2022.
