In Sunday's Gospel reading, Jesus tells the Parable of the Unjust Steward, who is skilled but dishonest. Pope Francis reflected on the meaning of this story in modern day, which he said was not so different than Jesus' time.

POPE FRANCIS
Brothers and sisters, even in today's world there are stories of corruption like the one in the Gospel; dishonest conduct, unjust policies, selfishness dominating the choices of individuals and institutions, and many other dark situations.

The Pope said that rather than being discouraged by how easily the corrupt advance, the Gospel calls people to do good in a clever way.

POPE FRANCIS
We are called to be creative when doing good, with the prudence and intelligence of the Gospel, using the goods of this world, not only material ones, but all the gifts we have received from the Lord. Not to enrich ourselves, but to create fraternal love and friendship.

After praying the Angelus, Pope Francis spoke about the crisis in the caucuses that recently restarted between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

POPE FRANCIS
I am saddened by the recent fighting between Azerbaijan and Armenia. I express my spiritual sympathy to the families of the victims, and urge the parties to respect the cease-fire while looking for a peace agreement.
And let us continue to pray for the battered people of Ukraine and for peace in every war-torn land.

He made a similar call for dialogue during his trip to Kazakhstan, which he said he would discuss during Wednesday's General Audience.
