Pope Francis traveled to Kazakhstan for the 38th international trip of his pontificate, a country known for its ethnic and religious diversity, and which has a very small Catholic minority.
It was a short trip of only three days, which saw as its centerpiece his participation in the VII Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions. Together, interfaith leaders asked the international community to work for peace and religious liberty.
Amonf the highlights of the trip was the Pope's meeting with the delegation from the Russian Orthodox Church, due to the absence of its head, Patriarch Kirill. The Pope expressed to them his desire to have a second meeting with the Russian Patriarch.
