Pope Francis was the first religious leader to speak at the Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions of Kazakhstan.
He arrived in a wheelchair and was seated in the place of honor, next to the country's president. The Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, considered the highest authority of Sunni Islamic thought, was the first to greet him. The two have been working together for years to fight against religious fanaticism.
