Many public officials were in attendance at the beatification of Pope John Paul I. Among them were Sergio Matarella, President of the Republic of Italy, and Pierre Dartout, Monaco's Minister of State. Pope Francis remembered them during the Angelus prayer.
POPE FRANCIS
I greet the official delegations gathered here to pay homage to the new Blessed. I send my regards to the President of the Italian Republic and the Prime Minister of the Principality of Monaco.
The Pope also greeted those from the north of Italy who came to Rome to participate in the beatification of the Pope from their hometown.
POPE FRANCIS
I greet all the pilgrims, especially the faithful from Venice, Belluno and Vittorio Veneto—places linked to the human, priestly and episcopal experience of Blessed Albino Luciani.
The beatification of John Paul I was full of testimonies about this Pope who was, above all, a shepherd and close to his flock.
