Pope Francis donned a hard hat to visit the Chapel of Memory in the Italian town of L'Aquila.

The chapel was built to remember the 294 that were killed when an earthquake struck the town in 2009.

The Pope traveled to L'Aquila to participate in the 278th Celestine forgiveness celebration, a tradition inspired by Pope Celestine V and uninterrupted since 1294.
