Italian Cardinal Angelo Becciu was present at the Consistory for the creation of twenty new cardinals.
Until a few days before the ceremony, it was unclear whether he would attend. According to what the cardinal himself revealed to Italian press, the Pope had recently invited him to attend the Consistory. The Vatican has only confirmed that he will not have the right to vote in a future conclave.
In 2020, Pope Francis dismissed Cardinal Becciu as prefect of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints. He also stripped him of his privileges as a cardinal after being accused of mismanaging Vatican funds.
