It should have been held in 2022, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, World Youth day has been delayed until the following year. However, preparation for the 2023 event is well underway as it is scheduled for August 1 – 6. Organizers are preparing the final details.

It is the first WYD that all the pilgrims attending were born within the digital age.
Adapting to this more modern generation, WYD 2023 will have an environmental focus. Following the teachings of Laudato si', the organization will minimize meal packaging to reduce waste and prevent pollution.

The countdown to WYD 2023 has already begun. Lisbon picks up the baton after the celebration in Panama in 2019. It is the first time that the Portuguese capital will host the largest youth event of the Catholic Church.
