Pope Francis is greeted by 'cobo' from Fijian president and wife at Apostolic Palace

Pope Francis met with the President of the Republic of Fiji, His Excellency Mr. Ratu Wiliame Maivalili Katonivere, and his wife in the Apostolic Palace.

During the meeting, the Pope and President spoke about their shared interest in protecting the environment and climate change. 

President Katonivere presented Pope Francis with a gift made of grass from the protected wetlands of Fiji. 

The Pope then gave him some of his writings, one of them touching on the protection of the enviroment.

At the end of the meeting, Pope Francis asked for prayers.

The President and his wife then said goodbye to the Pope with the 'cobo', a traditional Fijian greeting meant to show respect.
