St. Francis de Laval was the first bishop of the diocese of Québec and built a seminary and school dedicated to educating missionary priests and young boys in the Catholic faith.
The Cathedral of Notre-Dame de Québec, built in 1647, was the first parish Church north of Mexico and is named after Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception.
