Over the sound of cheers and drums, Pope Francis greeted the some 65,000 gathered in Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton to attend papal Mass.
Although he was seated, the Pope got up from his chair to greet the faithful and bless several babies.
Although the Pope arrived in Canada on a Sunday, he chose to celebrate his first public Mass only after meeting with Indigenous peoples on their lands to address the Church's role in supporting the residential school system.
