In the July 2 Reuters interview, Pope Francis shared new plans regarding the role of women in the Church.

The Pope said he intends to place women on the committee responsibile for promoting new bishops to the pope.

This is another step in Pope Francis' work in recent years to appoint women in senior positions in the Vatican like Barbara Jatta, director of the Vatican Museums.

BARBARA JATTA
Director, Vatican Museums
I am married to a pediatrician, and I have three children.

I have never felt discriminated in my experience working for the Vatican; I want to underline this.

The new apostolic constitution, which went into effect in June, provides more opportunity for women to be in positions of responsibility than in the past.
