After praying the Angelus in St. Peter's Square, Pope Francis once again called on the international community for a change in global politics.

It came on the 130th day of the war in Ukraine.

POPE FRANCIS
The world needs peace. Not a peace based on the balance of arms, on mutual fear. No, that won't do. That would mean turning history back seventy years.

The Pope said there is still time to return to the spirit of multilateralism that abounded after World War II.

At that time, he said, the world was aware of the need for working together to avoid tragedies like Nazism.

POPE FRANCIS
The Ukrainian crisis should have been, but still can be, if wanted, a challenge for wise statesmen, capable of building a better world for the new generations through dialogue. With God's help this is always possible.

On other occasions the Pope has cited the examples of politicians such as Alcide De Gasperi or Robert Schuman. They were key figures in forming the European Union, which the Pope praises as a project that brings people together rather than divides them.
