The Pontifical Academy for Life has joined the U.S. Bishops Conference's statement on the Supreme Court's decision to overturn the constitutional right to abortion.
In it, Archbishop Gomez and Archbishop Lori declared that “it is a time for healing wounds, repairing social divisions, and coming together to build a society and economy where every woman has the support and resources she needs to bring her child into this world in love.”
The President of the Pontifical Academy for Life, Archbishop Vincenzo Paglia, said that “this act is a powerful invitation to reflect together on the serious and urgent issue of human generativity,” and that “by choosing life, our responsibility for the future of humanity is at stake.”
The statement from the pontifical academy notes how the Court's decision shows how the issue of abortion continues to arouse heated debate, and demonstrates the need for adequate sexual education, accessible health care for all, and legislation to protect families and mothers.
