Pope Francis' continued knee problems led him to make the painful decision not to travel to Africa in early July.
The pain in the Pope's knee prevents him from walking regularly. Every Wednesday at his General Audience, it takes Pope Francis almost 5 minutes to walk the few meters from his chair to the popemobile.
However, the trip to Canada from July 24-30 will happen. The Vatican released the schedule for the trip which includes 4 homilies and 5 speeches or greetings. The Pope will visit Quebec and Edmonton and two other locations near Edmonton.
Despite the fact that he cannot move easily, Pope Francis told the bishops of Brazil that the idea that he is thinking of resigning is exaggerated.
MONS. ROQUE PALOSCHI
Bishop of Porto Velho (Brazil)
And when we asked him how his health was, he told us that because of his age, the doctors advised against surgery and that is why he is doing physiotherapy. There was a lot of talk in the press that he was going to resign. And he told us: 'I don't remember saying that. That has not crossed my mind. I want to live the mission entrusted to me until the end'.
Pope Francis had met with the Brazilian bishops during their visit as a bishops conference to Rome this year.
