Pope Francis met with the United Nations' Under-Secretary-General of Disarmament Affairs in his residence at Casa Santa Marta at the Vatican.
Izumi Nakamitsu of Japan is responsible for heading the UN body that promotes non-proliferation of arms, including weapons of mass destruction.
The Pope remained in a wheelchair for their meeting, but was in high spirits.

As a gift, Pope Francis gave her a statue of St. Martin giving his cloak to a poor man and the significant texts of his pontificate, before asking that she remember to pray for him.
